Can I Use Tannerite To Blow Up A Beaver Dam?
I get this question a fair amount. Seems like a pretty straightforward question — unfortunately, it's not. If you look at the actual Tannerite website, and on our website as well, neither specifically says you can or can't. What it does say is that these are targets; the intended use is for just that: a loud (and fun) report that lets you know you hit what you were shooting at.
The reason for the clarity is strictly a liability issue. It's not that it won't — it's that the liability is too much to say that it will. I've seen videos on YouTube (mostly real) of people blowing up everything from beaver dams to cars, campers and more. I've also seen a guy get his leg taken out blowing up a lawnmower. There is a reason for the recommended 100-yards-per-pound rule, and that is it.
Basically, what happens is, when you detonate a target, if there is debris close to the target and between you and the target, said debris can possibly fly back in your direction very fast. That's a pretty big risk.
Now, I'm not an attorney and none of this is legal advice. I just want to advocate safe use of our targets. We have disclaimers on the product and here on the website, as does Tannerite, for that very reason.
So, to answer the question: Tannerite and Outlaw X targets will explode when detonated, performing as intended, when used in a safe manner. It will provide a report to let you know you hit your target. We advocate using it for just that.
